Our Origin Story

Highland Business Services was founded in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by our CEO, Rodger Spainhower. The name "Highland" was inspired by the Rocky Mountains, which served as a reminder of strength and stability. Those values have shaped the company from the start, guiding its focus on dependable support as the business landscape evolves.

In the mid-1980s, Highland moved from the mountains of Colorado to the desert landscapes of Arizona. With the transition came an expansion of services, including account management and payment processing for thousands of recreational park members nationwide, as well as fundraising support for local nonprofits.

In the late 1990s, Rodger partnered with a colleague specializing in mergers and acquisitions. In exchange for managing the firm’s software systems, Rodger was offered the opportunity to learn the M&A business firsthand. During this period, he also oversaw the firm's EDGAR filing operations. When the company chose to divest its EDGAR services in the early 2000s, Rodger acquired that segment and integrated it into Highland. While Highland continues to provide limited billing services for long-time clients, EDGAR filings have since become the company’s core focus.

Today, Highland Business Services stands as a trusted EDGAR filing expert, helping businesses and other reporting entities navigate the complexities of SEC compliance with confidence. While the business has evolved over the years, its foundation remains the same…strong, dependable, and built to help clients reach new heights.
Our Leadership Team
Rodger Spainhower
I grew up spending nearly every summer working on my grandparents’ farm. Life on the farm taught me the value of hard work early on, and I’ve always believed that hard, honest work pays off. My background is in business and banking, and in addition to founding Highland, I’ve served on the board of directors for several international companies. While I’m now semi-retired, I still enjoy stepping in to support the team whenever needed. Outside of work, I love family gatherings and spending time in the great outdoors. |
Marie Moffett
I’ve been with Highland Business Services since 2008, working alongside my dad, Rodger, and managing our client relationships. Over the years, I’ve developed in-depth knowledge of the SEC’s EDGAR filing process and the ever-changing regulatory landscape, ensuring smooth, compliant operations for my clients. On the personal side, I met my husband while we were both working at Disneyland during college. We now have two sons who keep us busy with baseball and music lessons. As a family, we love to camp, explore new places, and make the most of our time together traveling.
