The Deadline for EDGAR Next Enrollment is Around the Corner – Are You Ready?
The Clock is Ticking: Enroll in EDGAR Next by September 12, 2025
Time has flown since the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced its adoption of EDGAR Next on September 27, 2024. Now, filers are quickly approaching the SEC EDGAR enrollment deadline – and those who miss it risk losing access to the EDGAR system.
If you haven’t yet learned how to enroll in EDGAR Next, don’t panic – there’s still time before the September 12 cutoff, and the process is straightforward.
What is EDGAR Next and Why Does It Matter?
EDGAR Next is the SEC’s modernized filing system, designed to enhance security and give filers more control over user access to their accounts.
The EDGAR Next enrollment period opened on March 24, 2025, and ends on September 12, 2025. Meanwhile, filers who have not yet enrolled are still able to use the legacy EDGAR system.
However:
Starting September 15, 2025 – All filers must be enrolled to access EDGAR.
After December 19, 2025 – Any filer who has not enrolled will have to submit a Form ID to regain access, which requires SEC staff review and may cause delays.
What Should Filers Do Now?
If you haven’t started the EDGAR Next enrollment process, now is the time. Here’s what you need to gather:
- Current access codes: CIK, CCC, and Passphrase.
- Designated account administrators:
- Companies must have two administrators.
- Individuals must have one administrator.
- Login.gov credentials for all account administrators, created via the EDGAR Filer Management webpage.
Account administrators are responsible for managing who can access your EDGAR account which is a key security feature of EDGAR Next.
